The adventure, however, is not on a mountain, or trail or lake, but rather the many bars and saloons in Whitefish with unique personalities.

Concentrated onto Central Avenue, one can move from bar to bar in a single evening (on foot) and experience different live music, make new friends and push back some Montana-strong beverages.

Although the myth endures about the ratio of men to women in ski towns, we've found the opposite to be seemingly true. All too often, the bar stools are lined with independent-minded Whitefish women. We're not sure if they are there to meet new people or just to drink with the gals. You'll have to discover that for yourself.

The wild west survives in the back rooms of some of the bars and saloons as well, with live low-stakes poker (perfectly legal in Montana). It's played for fun but with real money.
