This winter, try a dog sled adventure! Winter Woods has been training and racing sled dogs for 30 years and are in their fourth year of offering sled dog tours. Tours are geared toward active, outdoor enthusiasts who want to do more than just go for a ride. You need to be able to help drive the sled...so we are looking for active adventure seekers to join us for a thrilling ride.
Butch has built an awesome sled with the capability of having one client riding in the sled and one client standing on the runners of the sled behind a seasoned musher resulting in an actual mushing experience. The clients can switch places during the tour, so each person can have the feeling of driving the team! (Check out the photos of the sled to the left--click on it to enlarge it). It is so much fun!
We specialize in giving dog sled tours to groups of 4 or less. We have a small kennel and cannot take out large groups. If you have a group larger than 4 people, please divide your group up between our two runs of the day or between a couple of different days. Taking out small groups keeps this unique experience more personable and enjoyable.
After Christmas, we are only open on the weekends, so call early to book your week end tours!
Come and spend some time meeting the dogs, learning the basics of dog sledding, experience being behind a sled or enjoy the ride in the sled. Dress appropriately for cold and dog paws since you may be actively involved with the team!
Believe it or not, your weight matters when we are taking out our tours. When you call, be prepared to tell us your weight so we will know how many dogs to hook up to each team. Our sled dog teams can only pull a certain amount of weight, so heavier people may be in a sled by themselves and will be expected to stand and help with driving the sled. Make sure you physically able to do that.
We had a successful first couple of years of business and are looking forward to another exciting and busy season this winter. We are hoping for another La Nina winter with tons of snow! Our season starts December 1st-weather and trail conditions permitting! THINK SNOW!
Departure times are flexible, but generally the morning time is 10:30 and the afternoon time is 2:00-2:30. If you want different times, please let us know!
Plan on spending some time learning about being on a sled and then about 40-50 minutes on the trail running the team depending on snow /trail conditions. Hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and brownies/cookies will be offered after the tour and you are welcome to spend some time meeting and petting the dogs.
COST: $80.00 per person
We are located 13 miles west of Whitefish. We will give you easy to follow directions when you call, or check out the map on this website to see where we are. You can also look at the map offered on this page to get an idea of where we are.
(Note: WE ARE NOT LOCATED AT 242 LUPFER AVENUE IN TOWN. DO NOT FOLLOW THE MAP YOU FIND ON SOME OF THE WEB SITES THAT COME UP WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING FOR DOG SLEDDING.)
Our business depends on weather conditions. We reserve the right to cancel any ride if the conditions aren't just right for the safety of our clients and our dogs.
