A Local's guide to a perfect March Day

Bright sunshine filters through the windows promising a bluebird day at Whitefish Mountain Resort.  Sunny days are for skiing.  Quick change into wool layers, grab the coffee mug, load the car and with pup in tow cruise downtown to fill our bellies before they day’s adventure begins.  Sweet-savory-can’t decide?  No need to compromise.  Amazing Crepes fuels many of our outdoor adventures and the Darth Bacon lets me get my bacon and eggs fix while a friend settles on a crepe stuffed with strawberries, walnuts and brown sugar.

We drive to the ski hill winding our way up Big Mountain Road, sipping coffee and soaking in views of the Flathead Valley.  Buckle our boots, give the pup a pat with promises of a hike later and we make our way to the chairlift.  As we crest the summit views of Glacier National Park span the horizon—peaks on peaks—and you can’t help but be humbled.  We take our first run down Inspiration—a sun-splashed groomer—and the giggles keep coming as we pop in and out of trees floating around the mountain.  With more than 3,000 skiable acres of varied terrain Whitefish Mountain Resort has something to offer all levels of skier/snowboarder.

Smiles on our faces we ski back to the car and head to The Whitefish Trail—36 miles of natural surface trails—puppy heaven.  Our pup stretches her legs and our minds drift to summer days and riding bikes through these woods.  The WF Trail has 10 different trailheads and seemingly endless loops you can connect for a few hours or an all day adventure.  As the sun dips behind the mountains we load up and cruise back into town for cocktails at our favorite local distillery, Spotted Bear Spirits.  Their cocktail list holds something for every palate and their drinks are built from spirits distilled on-site accented wit local, fresh, organic ingredients.  We settle in with two of our favorites, the Nailed It (a raspberry/ginger cocktail) and Snowghost (a twist on a White Russian using the house-made Montana Coffee Traders Coffee Liqueur) to reflect on another great day in Whitefish.

We love our vibrant mountain town.
